Tucked away beside beautiful fields and woods, Dexter's Dogs is a friendly and highly experienced daycare service.
We have been caring for dogs for the past fourteen years and we are also both experienced rescuers and fosterers.
Our daycare service is a highly personalised one: guest dogs are never left alone and they are under our constant guidance and supervision.
And as all of our regulars come a minimum of twice a month, we get to know them extremely well.
All guest dogs enjoy wonderful walks and the groups are kept small. Our walks involve recall training with both verbal cues and a whistle.
Some of our more energetic dogs also love a lively game of Frisbee!
Our aim is to give you peace of mind.
No doubt your dog means the world to you, and our ethos is simple: we provide the care we would want our own dogs to enjoy.
Some guest dogs like to play with their pals, while others prefer to curl up on a sofa in the Dog Den, where there is relaxing music playing.
Any new members of the group are carefully vetted to ensure that only soft-natured, sociable dogs become part of the gang :)
We are not able to accept dogs who are overly boisterous, who are reactive, or who exhibit resource guarding.
Tabatha has done numerous courses with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers), and she takes great care when assessing potential new dogs, to ensure that we are the right daycare for them, and that they are happy and relaxed here.
We take the responsibility of looking after people's precious dogs very seriously. Dexter's Dogs is licensed with Hertsmere Council, and insured with a specialist pet care company.
We are in Borehamwood, and we have owners from many areas bringing their dogs to us, including Radlett, Mill Hill, Stanmore, Barnet, Arkley, and Totteridge.
Please feel most welcome to get in touch with any queries re daycare :) Our email is tabs@dextersdogs.uk and we can also be reached on 07904 886608.
We are with them the entire time, monitoring and guiding them, and ensuring that each dog has the right amount of stimulation and enrichment, as well as rest periods.
Play is carefully supervised at all times.
We are able to walk out of our front door and straight into a paradise for pooches!
No need for our guest dogs to spend any time in a car or van.
Our guest dogs love coming for sleepovers! They stay in our rooms and on our beds, or in one of the many comfy pet beds which we provide.
Overnights are exclusively for our weekly daycare dogs.
The meet and greet is a walk so that I can assess how a dog responds to other pups, people, joggers, and the world in general.
It also gives me an idea of a dog's energy level and offers a chance for owners to discuss their dog's needs.
All of our pups get plenty of individual attention and we do recall training with all of them, using both whistles and verbal cues.
All daycare dogs wear a collar with our mobile number on, as well as ID tags with all of our details. We only allow a dog off lead once we have established a solid recall with them.
We want you to see what a fabulous time your best friend is having!
We don't expect puppies to be neutered/spayed.
If you have an adult male dog who is over six months we can only take them if they have been neutered.
If you have an adult female who is not spayed, then she is welcome to attend daycare - but won't be able to come along when in season, and we will not be able to offer boarding.
The reason we have a long walk as the meet and greet, is so I can get a sense of what your dog is like, how sociable they are, how they respond when they encounter other dogs, what their energy level is like, and so on.
By the end of that hour, I will have an idea of whether we are a good fit. If I feel we are not, I will be upfront and say so. I will also do my best to help you find an alternative dog carer.
My priority is always that every dog who comes here is happy and relaxed.
Our aim is always to do the very best for every single dog we meet - occasionally that means helping an owner find an alternative to daycare.
At the meet and greet, if it seems we could be a good fit, we will then arrange a trial day.
Your dog will join us for the day and meet some of our regulars, and will also enjoy a lovely walk. If your dog is relaxed and happy, they are welcome to start attending regularly.
Our priority is to have gentle, sociable dogs here, and that's why there is an hour-long meet and greet before we progress to arranging a trial day.
We are not able to accept dogs who are overly boisterous, reactive, or who display resource guarding.
We are not able to accept any of the banned breeds.
Alas no. Firstly, when dogs are in our care, only John and I are able to interact with them - we do not allow anyone else in.
Secondly, it may make your dog more nervous to have you there, not least because your presence would make the other dogs very excited!
Rest assured we will be sending you plenty of photos so you can see your dog's new pals and all the fun they are having together.
At the meet and greet we will discuss your dog's recall and I will be assessing them if they are off lead.
If your dog comes for a trial day, they will be on lead as it is our first walk.
On subsequent walks, if they recall well to us on lead, we will allow them off lead if you are happy with that. We use whistles to recall our guest dogs and most respond really well.
Please note: if you have a very nervous dog, or a dog who has any history of bolting out of parks etc, then they must stay on lead when in our care.
Daycare starts at 8a.m. and closes at 6p.m.
